South Delta Sundevils 27 Varsity Dawgs 12
It was a game where we led for over a half and had our chances to capitalize on great defense and special teams, but ultimately fell short. I alone am responsible for that. There are no fingers to point. The players gave their all, period.
In the big games, great opponents will make you pay for anything less than perfection and this was the case on Saturday at UBC. There was no quit in our guys and all played with passion and desire. No regrets, twas not our day. There was much to be proud of when the final whistle blew.
From here, we all go on to "get better". One football game does not define who we are as people. How we respond, how we "bounce" and move forward does in it's way, define us. The players who participated in this one are winners for even being there! Our graduating grade 12's have since their freshmen year, played in two BC Semi-Final Games and two BC Championship Games. Pretty darn impressive when you consider the fact that the vast majority of their gridiron peers across the province do not get to play in even one such meaningful game during their HS career. The body of work our squad has put forth this year and in year's past is inspiring and I believe a foundation for life success in the years to come.
Returning players have some big choices to make as to how they are going to approach the coming 2013 season. Nothing will be handed to you and everything will be earned. When it comes down to crunch-time on the field, against a quality opponnent, there will be no lies. You either out-prepared the men across from you or you did not. Football is an honest game. Ask the grade 12's how fast it all goes by and how precious every moment you have playing for the Dawgs is. You will know what to do.
To all who have supported our squad and program this year:
An Immense Thank You! My appreciation and gratitude are marrow deep.
All Love,
Coach
