BC's Best Rivalry Game This Friday!

This year's game vs the Ballenas Whalers is for all the Western Division marbles as the winner takes the title and goes into the playoff tournament as the number 1 seed in their bracket.  Beyond this, there is of course the competitive nature of the rivalry and pride that goes with a victorious game performance.  Barsby has owned the trophy with wins in 2009, 2010 and 2011.  This year's version of the Whalers is the most complete since they dominated in the 2008 game and a victory for our squad, should it come, will be hard earned indeed.

Fan support will be massive and decisive at this game.  The more Barsby folks that are present, the better the atmosphere.  Everyone has a positive role they can play.  Bring yourself, bring some family, bring some friends, ralley your networks.  Bring your voice, bring a noise maker, wear Red and cheer loud and positive.

Great Game vs The SunDevils...See You In November Fellas!

 

Our Varsity Dawgs fell short in a 13-6 loss this past Friday Night at Merel Logan to the South Delta Sundevils.  The story of the night was big hitting and tough defense both ways.  Both teams made some exceptional plays, but South Delta made more and that was the difference.

We are going to reload and get better in the coming weeks in anticipation of future big tests on the field.

Finish Counts!

 

"Having Finish" never rang more true than in Wednesday's 14-13 last minute come from behind win vs Island Rival Ballenas.  The Whalers led 13-8 most of the way, but we found a soft edge late in the fourth and capitalized on it.  Defensively, it took a rock solid second half to give the offense the shot it needed to get in the endzone.

 

Back to work Friday AM to prepare for Edward Milne who will be visiting The Cage this coming Wednesday.

A thrilling first half had the score 16-14 for JB at half-time.  The second half was all about bounce and our first possession was a decisive, quarter-eating drive that separated us for good.  Great work JV's, you left your mark on history.

2012 Ray Kocher Classic

South-End Rivalry Game Set To Resume This Week!

The Ray Kocher Classic Football Game named after former John Barsby HS and Nanaimo District HS Principal Mr. Ray Kocher is set to be played this week between the two schools.  Mr. Kocher was the administrator who brought HS Football to this town beginning in February 1996 with the inception of the John Barsby Bulldogs.  In 2001, coming off of their first BC Championship the Barsby Coaching Staff approached Mr. Kocher and then VP Mr. John Blaine of NDSS about splitting the JB crew and starting a new program at Nanaimo District. Both men supported the idea and led by coach Nate Stevenson, the NDSS program came into existence.  The rest has been over a decade of football history affecting in a very positive way, hundreds of young men,their families and their school community to name just a few. 

This week we honor our collective history with the big game down in the South-End.  Many of the players on each team have grown up playing one another since they were fifth and sixth graders.  The game is truly a rivalry and will be hard fought.  Barsby had better bring their A-Game!!

Congratulations to our Varsity on their 20-7 road victory over the very tough and well prepared Windsor Dukes this past Friday.  Our defense was solid throughout and we played well offensively in the late quarters.  We wish James and Dexter a speedy recovery in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to our JV Dawgs on their 52-6 victory Wednesday afternoon.  We played a good physical game with 2 TD's coming via the air, 4 via the ground and one on an elecrifying 70 kick-off return.  Offensively w had four ball carriers deliver with 184 yard on 29 carries and our passing game going 11/17 for 105 yds. to seven (7) different receivers.  Defensively we forced a fumble, got a sack and had two interceptions in a very physical performance.

Next up for our JV's is the 2012 Ray Kocher Classic Football Game against neighborhood rival Nanaimo District HS.  Kick-Off will be at 3:16 PM on Thursday October 4th on the Nanaimo District HS field.

Our JV's played AAA WJ Mouat extremely tough in a hot, hard fought contest on the turf in Abbottsford.  The young Barsby crew was relentless and though we came up short on the scoreboard 27-16, we had drives end on the Mouat 1, twice on their 3 and once on the 5.  A little more finish and it is a different game entirely!

Talk about Bounce!  Carson opened the game with a nice drive and a score, but the Varsity Dawgs responded in massive fashion.  At the end of the 1st quarter we led 22-6, at half it was 44-14.  The game ended 64-14 with the entire 2nd in running time.  We surely played a tough physical brand of ball and there was synergy between offense, defense and specials.   The Province posted a great photo on its blog:

Light Em Up! 



Our Varisty got off to a slow, penalty and turnover plagued 1st half start leading 16-0 at half.  We cleaned up our game and prevailed 40-0 by game's end which was in mercy time for part of the third and all of the 4th quarter.

Defense was our standout crew on Friday.  Not only did we post a shutout, but we did so in dominating physical fashion.  We got a lot of hats to the football and once we read our run keys better, we really shutdown most everything in that phase of the game.

When we finally hit on all cylinders for four quarters, it is going to be a thing of beauty.  For now, it is back to practice to build a better version of ourselves.  We have a big test next Friday against Carson Graham!

Congratulations to our JV Dawgs on their 28-0 victory vs the visiting GW Graham Grizzlies of Chilliwack.  The game was 8-0 at half-time and close early on in the second half.  We eventually pulled away as relentless defensive pressure and some tough running/blocking bore dividends.  Good job fellas!! 

It is back to work on Friday morning.  6 AM practice!!  Next up for us is a road trip to play the AAA WJ Mouat Hawks of Abbottsford on Wed. 19 September.

JV Practices: M, T, W, R 3:01-5:31 PM

Varsity Practices: M, T, W, R 6:01-8:31 PM

Players should arrive to practice 1/2 hr ahead of time.

Uniform: Helmet, Shorts, Cleates

All Players must bring a 2 litre water bottle to practice.
