League and Conference: We play in the BC High School Football AA JV league   . There are four divisions of which two are in the Lower Mainland, one is in the interior and one is on the Island. The Island has nine AA teams at present.

1. E.J. Milne (Sooke)

2. Belmont (Victoria)

3. John Barsby (Nanaimo)

4. Nanaimo District (Nanaimo)

5. Ballenas (Parksville)

6. Mark Isfield (Courtenay)

7. G.P Vanier (Courtenay)

8. Timberline (Campbell River)

Our league games begin the first week of September and will be generally played on Wednesday afternoons. At the end of league play the top four teams will advance to the playoffs. Spring Commitments

Football Spring Frenzy Development Camp: Sat/Sun April 17/18th 8:30 AM-2:30 PM @ John Barsby HS.

Junior Varsity Spring Practices: Begin Tuesday, May 4th and take place Tuesdays, Thursdays 3:15-5:00 and Fridays 2-4:00 PM.

Spring Jamboree: Saturday, May 29th 11 AM-3:30 PM @ Nanaimo District HS.

***Please Note** Spring Practices have been structured to end early enough to allow players to meet spring Baseball and Lacrosse commitments. Football takes precedence in the Fall.

Fall Practices: Begin two weeks prior to Labor Day Monday August 23rd. These practices will run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:30-5:30 PM.

Once school is in session we will practice: Monday and Tuesday 3:15-5:30 PM and Fridays 6:30-8:00 AM. On weeks where we do not play on Wednesdays, we will practice Wednesday 3:15-5:30 PM.

-For planning purposes: Parents, players and coaches can count on this schedule to remain intact without change.-

Academics and Football: Barsby Football is a school sport. All players are expected to make a maximum personal effort towards their studies. It is understood that people have their respective strengths and weaknesses academically. It is also understood that we all have the equal opportunity to a) attend all of our classes and b) put forth our best effort in terms of conduct and production. With a 24 hour day in place, all players are required/expected to manage their time to include homework and football. Last second excuses that claim homework in lieu of football practice are the product of poor personal time management and will not be viewed kindly by the H. Coach. All players have the time and opportunity to schedule 2 hours of their day for ball and 2 hrs per-day for homework. We have produced several Academic All-Canadians at the University Level and several others in challenging engineering/academic programs at the University Level. It can be done! Players are reminded that irregarless of athleticism, they need a minimum 76% average, a language and 4 provincially examinable courses to attend the majority of Canadian Universities. Now is the time to plan to build this foundation.

JV Football Study Hall: We run a JV Football study hall year-round every Thursday after school in Mr. Austin’s classroom. This is a unique opportunity for each player and a huge support to his academics during the season.

**Of Note: 45% of our program roster grades 9-12 in 2009 achieved honor roll status!!**

A complete program orientation will be presented on registration night.

Questions: Contact Coach Stevenson at school 753-8211 ext. 350 or e-mail Boomsha@yahoo.com
