Week 8 Recap

Week Eight

The eighth week of the season saw our JV's crash into the playoffs with a punishing 36-20 win over the Bellmont Blue Bulldogs on Wednesday "In The Canem Cage" on John Barsby Field.  Kudo's to the hard training and persistence by this group in 2013.  We have been living up to our motto of "Getting Better Each Day" and after a bye this week, will be on the road against a top seed for the playoffs.  Fellas, use this week and next to improve!

At Varsity, our foes were the Carson Graham Eagles.  Much adieu was made in The Province newspaper of them working out at 0730 this year.  That put a bit of a smile on our faces as we own the AM!  Carson came to play and were a great team physically.  We accepted the challenge and won 21-0.  We could see these guys again late in the playoffs so no let downs at all!!

Next up for our Varsity is the Nanaimo District Islanders in the Ray Kocher Classic, 1:46 PM, Friday, November 1st at Merle Logan.

Go Dawgs!

Week Seven Hi-Lites

Week Seven of the season saw our JV's play four hard quarters against a tough Mt. Doug squad and our Varsity take care of business vs divisional rival Windsor with a 28-14 win.

Next up for our JV's is the Belmont Bulldogs with a playoff seed on the line this coming Wednesday, 3:01 PM in The Canem Cage on John Barsby Field.  Our Varsity play the undefeated Carson Graham Eagles for first place in the division this Friday, 1:45 PM at Merle Logan Field.

Varsity Dawgs vs Windsor Dukes

1:46 PM, Friday, 18 October, Merle Logan Field Nanaimo

This is a playoff game for both teams.  The winner secures a minimum of second place in the division.  The loser faces a tougher post-season road for sure.  Windsor will be PREPARED!  They are led by one of the smartest coaches in Canada and the number one rated qb is BC.  The supporting cast is very, very good, technically sound and rarely out of position.  Time to bring our A-Game Barsby!

Week Six Tilts

Week Six was a mixed-bag for the Barsby Bulldogs...

Junior Varsity

Following a very good week of practice, our JV's got off to a very slow offensive start vs the Ballenas Whalers.  Down 14-0 at half-time, our JV's came roaring back in the second half finding themselves down 14-10 with less than four minutes to go.  We had our opportunities to take the lead, but it was not to be with the final score at game's end being 20-10 for the Whalers.  Next-Up is the Mt. Douglas Rams on Wednesday.

Varsity

The Varsity Dawgs played a complete game start to finish against the Spectrum Thunder on Friday night winning 68-0.  The outmatched Thunder never quit and were hard competitors and good sportsmen throughout.  Next-Up for our Varsity is a critical game vs North Vancouver's Windsor Dukes at 1:46 PM on Merle Logan Field.  At stake, no less than home field in the 1st round of the playoffs!

Friday Night Under The Lights

Merle Logan Field Nanaimo

6:01 PM Kick-Off!

This will be our HOMECOMING GAME! All past players, coaches, parents and student alums are cordially invited!

Barsby will be wearing Whites! Our defense has shut-out 4 of 5 opponents this year. We Gang- Tackle like mad-men and call these group events "white-outs!" because you cannot see the ball carrier beneath all the white Barsby Uniforms!!

We are asking our supporters to wear white and bring white towels to wave in the stands. We are looking for "white-out conditions" in our fan section. Our bench and fan side will be on the tower side of the field. Ballenas and their fans will be seated opposite. Please bring all the family and friends you can muster out to the game. Please use Facebook and social media to get the word out. We want to make this game an epic happening!!

In support of our school community we will be requesting a non-perishable food donation for the school food hamper program at the gate if it can be managed.

See you all Friday Night and remember to cheer for your team and not against the other team!!!

Ballenas and Barsby make each other better!  Without Ballenas, we would not be the same nor they without Barsby.

FRIDAY NIGHT WHITEOUT CONDITIONS PREDICTED AT MERLE LOGAN!

Varsity 50 Sentinel 0

Varsity Dawgs 50 Sentinel 0

In 1996, our innaugural season, the score was
Sentinel 36 Barsby 0

We lost the first three games against these guys, two by very lopsided scores.  Folks at home and abroad told us we would never win.  We never quit.

The world will tell you you aren't good enough all the time;

That is the signature argument of mediocraty trying to defend itself

All Love JB!

JV's Make Massive Improvement!

Try Your Hardest-Get Better Each Day-Do The Right Thing!

That is our Motto, Our Creed and our Marching Orders all rolled into one.  A good week of practice and effort in the weight room translated into our best football of the year.  We lost 32-16 but it sure did not feel like it.  We played hard all day long and finished the game very strong.  Gang, it really looked like Barsby Ball out there on Wednesday.  Fast, physical and relentless. We set the tone for this week's practice and preparation for league play vs the NDSS Islanders next Thursday, 3:15 PM on the NDSS home field!

Time to get better!!
