Our Varisty got off to a slow, penalty and turnover plagued 1st half start leading 16-0 at half.  We cleaned up our game and prevailed 40-0 by game's end which was in mercy time for part of the third and all of the 4th quarter.

Defense was our standout crew on Friday.  Not only did we post a shutout, but we did so in dominating physical fashion.  We got a lot of hats to the football and once we read our run keys better, we really shutdown most everything in that phase of the game.

When we finally hit on all cylinders for four quarters, it is going to be a thing of beauty.  For now, it is back to practice to build a better version of ourselves.  We have a big test next Friday against Carson Graham!

JV's Post First Win of 2012

Congratulations to our JV Dawgs on their 28-0 victory vs the visiting GW Graham Grizzlies of Chilliwack.  The game was 8-0 at half-time and close early on in the second half.  We eventually pulled away as relentless defensive pressure and some tough running/blocking bore dividends.  Good job fellas!! 

It is back to work on Friday morning.  6 AM practice!!  Next up for us is a road trip to play the AAA WJ Mouat Hawks of Abbottsford on Wed. 19 September.

The Kuz Becomes A VI Raider

Coach Matt "Snoop" Blokker and "The Kuz" get set to chase down the National Title in 2012

John Barsby's 2011 AA Varsity Provincial Defensive Player of Year Jordan Kuziek aka "The Kuz" has decided that the VI Raiders Organization and partnership with VIU is a great fit for him headed out of high school.  We are extremely happy for Jordan and excited as hec for him and his new squad as they seek another National title in 2012.  Another great reason to spend summer and autumn afternoons down at Caledonia Park cheering on our BCFC juggernaut!  HS games on Fridays and BCFC games on Saturdays, it can't get any better!

2012 Garden Manure Sale

Spring is Officially Here!

2012 John Barsby Football Program has kicked-off its biggest fundraiser of the year en-route to shovelling nine (9) dump truck loads of garden manure into 3500 bags (40 lbs each).  Lots of fun and hard work in a common cause!  Well Done Fellas!!


Bags of manure are $5.00 and folks get a FREE bag for every four bags purchased on pick-up orders.


The Sale goes Sat/Sun March 17/18th 9 AM to 5 PM at the top of the student parking lot while supplies last.

2011 John Barsby Football Alumni Game

Great game played on New Years Eve by our Alumni.  For the first time in a half-decade the "Old Dawgs" won with the crew 1996-2005 defeating 2006-2011 26-20 in a hard fought contest.  Alumni parent and long-time friend of the program Mr. Joe Allen did a great video compilation as seen below of the fierce contest.  Remember all, we play at high noon the first Saturday after Christmas every year.

It sure was good to see everyone and share the afternoon together!

Dawgs Shine in BC Championship Games!

Congratulations to the 2011 AA JV BC Champions our very own JV Dawgs!  Our JV's won a heart -stopping game vs arch-rival Mission by a score of 22-20.  Well Done Fellas!  Your hard work and persistence is an inspiration and sets the bar for Barsby squads in the seasons to come!

A huge congratulations to our 2011 Varsity on their terrific season!  We came up four points short in our 16-12 Championship Game loss, but that does not take any lustre or credit off of a superb season and 23-1 two-year record since September 2010.  We fought like Lions and "left it all on the field" vs a superb Mission squad.  No shame and no regrets fellas, life is going to hand us all some disapointments and like we always say, how you bounce back from hard-times is what is really going to define you in the long-run.



To all the parents, students, staff, school administration, alumni and friends of the program who came out to support both teams on December 3rd; A most heartfelt thanks from all of us who were down on the field of play.  We were lifted and encouraged throughout the day by your support!

Fan Bus

We will be having fan busses for the big games!  We will have a student fan bus and an adult fan bus for each game.  Tickets can be purchased at the school front office.  Fan bus tickets are $20.00 and once purchased are NON-REFUNDABLE.  

The Fan Bus works as follows:

There is a student fan bus and an adult fan bus that will pick-up passengers at the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal.  Students must ride on the student fan bus and are not allowed on the adult fan bus.

We will have an adult and a student bus waiting for passengers disembarking from the 0620 Departure Bay Sailing to Horseshoe Bay and we will have another student and adult fan bus waiting for passengers disembarking from the 1030 Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay Sailing.

Procedure:

You purchase your seat on the bus at the school front office.  Your name goes on a roster of people who have a seat on that bus.

You are responsible for getting to the BC Ferry terminal at Departure Bay and purchasing a ticket on to the appropriate sailing.

You must then meet in front of the the Horseshoe Bay terminal and board your bus.

The bus will drive its passengers to BC Place.

You are responsible for your own ticket purchase at BC Place.  Students may not leave the stadium during the day's events.

At the conclusion of the Varsity Game you must assemble in front of the stadium and board your bus back to the Horseshoe Bay Terminal.

You are responsible for your ferry ticket back to Departure Bay and your ride from the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal home.

The game was a story of two halves.  We struggled with mental breakdowns in the first half and a good opponent made us look pretty average.  We were more complete during the second half.  A win is a win and we will surely take it.  Now it is time to go back to practice and get better.  Our next opponent will make us pay dearly for similar miscues.

Dawgs Play Behind Their Shoulder Pads!

A huge day at Beban Park in the worst of playing conditions!  Winds, sleet and driving rain did nothing to slow down the Dawg Juggernaut as we hosted the Holy Cross Crusaders of Surrey.  Our opponents came out physical and we responded in kind.  Over four quarters we gave our best and when everything was said and done, we had earned our way into the BC Semi-Final.

Bad Weather...Great Team Effort!

Next up for our JV squad is the Robert Bateman Timberwolves of Abbottsford.  Bateman is coming off of big shut-out wins of their own and will easily be the most complete and formidable opponent we have faced this year.  These guys are big fast and physical.   Barsby beware!  History is full of very talented teams who fell short after reading their own press clippings and underestimating a good opponent.  It is full of teams who under-achieved because they thought past deeds were worth a block or a tackle in the now.  Be humble, be focused and train/live in the now.

Robert Bateman is good, very good.  Our preparation has to rise to a new level!

JV Playoff Opener a Success!


Round 1 of the 2011 JV Playoffs had our JV Dawgs hosting a bunch of hungry gamers from the North Shore.  Though the score got big early, much credit goes to the Argyle squad for A) taking the game and B) playing hard to the final whistle.  We invited the young team into our post-game afterglow and the relationship between our two programs took on new and positive life.  We will be travelling to play the Pipers in early 2012 and are looking forwards to a cross-water rivalry with this North Shore school.


Our next game will be the AA JV BC Quarter-Final onWednesday, 16 November, 3:01 PM versus the Holy Cross Crusaders.  The game will be played at the new artificial turf field located at Beban Park.

JV's

Our JV's have a bye this week as Handsworth pulled the pin on their visit at the last second.  Though frustrating, we have decided to redouble our collective and individual efforts and get better this week!  Weight Room, Study Hall and a series of great practices will leave us better on Friday than we started on Monday.  This week is going to be a springboard for us into the November playoff run!

Our Varsity squad will host the Windsor Dukes of North Vancouver on Friday at 1:46 PM "In The Cage".  We are looking forward to a great turnout and a fun afternoon of JB Football.

Strap On Your Head Gear!

Time To Get It On!!!

It's Border Battle Week baby and BC's biggest HS Football Rivalry is stacking up to be a classic! Our Varsity Dawgs (4-0) host The Ballenas Whalers (3-1) on our home dirt this coming Friday afternoon and its a big one for both squads as this game not only counts for pride, but has massive playoff implications right out of the gates. The Whalers are for real this year and it is going to take our best week of prep and a supreme effort on the field of play to take this one.

The call is going out now to every Dawg supporter, alumni, parent and the student body to get out to the field and Rock-The Cage! Rain or shine, this is going to be "A Happening" to remember! We need the 12th man on the field with us (our crowd) as we do gridiron battle with our arch-rival Ballenas!

The Tenth Annual Ray Kocher Classic will be played this Wednesday, October 5th  3:01 PM "In The Cage!"  The game is called the Ray Kocher Classic as he was the Principal first at John Barsby and then at Nanaimo District who gave the go ahead for the start of High School Football at both schools.  Over the ensuing decade, hundreds and hundreds of young men have enjoyed and grown within the High School Football Experience.  Both programs are thriving and this game is a lot of fun.
